NICC Dairy Science students have taken several prizes at the National Post-Secondary Dairy Judging Contests at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin.
NICC students won first place nationally in the Practical Application competition and earned a fifth place finish in the Traditional Dairy Cattle Judging contest. Nick Duncanson of Lewiston, Minnesota, Andrew Hornberg of Winona, Minnesota, Jake Mill of Strawberry Point and Rachel Scott of Westgate matched their skills against students from 15 other two-year colleges from across the U.S.
It's the second time in three years that NICC has won the Practical Application competition at the national level. The contest has students rank heifers on a combined system for phenotype (conformation) and genotype (pedigree) for both registered and commercial dairy operations.
