New weights and new room

Renovations at Decorah High School are progressing smoothly and students are beginning use in several new areas. The latest area to be opened, within the last week, is the weight training room. Monday night found Coach Bill Post there supervising the #1 ranked Decorah Vikings Football Team in that space. The new boys locker room (also used as visitor's locker) is up and running. The girls locker room lockers are scheduled for arrival in a couple weeks and that area should be operational by early November.

Terrazzo floors have been installed in the new scatter kitchen area and in much of the adjacent common area/cafeteria (the old gymnasium). That new area should be operational after the holiday break. The teacher's lounge and conference rooms are now fully operational in the front office suite, as well as the ICN (Iowa Communications Network) room at the new building entrance. Work is progressing on the Family and Consumer Science area, as well as the adjacent Environmental Studies and Greenhouse space. Both should be operational by second semester. Seeding, sod work and landscaping around the building is on track, and a new parking lot on the east side of the building should be completed in a few weeks.

In addition, geothermal systems are scheduled to be on line by next month.
