The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department has released new information about Sunday's helicopter crash.
Police say pilot Dave Tappe of Churdan, Iowa and his passenger, Kaleb McNeely from Texas, were on their way to Green Bay, Wisconsin to do utility work when the engine on the helicopter failed.
Tappe was able to safely bring down the helicopter by minimizing the impact with the ground. However, the helicopter rolled onto its side when it landed. Tappe and McNeely were able to free themselves from the wreckage and make their way out of the corn field to the property owner's house, where they called police.
Neither Tappe nor McNeeley were injured.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board investigated the accident.
