St. Benedict School students joined students from thousands of schools across America and in more than 40 countries worldwide on Wednesday to celebrate Walk to School Day.
The group of kindergarten through eighth grade students, parents, and school staff met at the City Parking Lot to begin their school day, walking over the dike near the high school and following the bike path before crossing Montgomery Street near the Bruening pond and following Ridgewood Drive and Rural Avenue to the school.
The event was followed by a snack of fresh fruits and a fall outdoor field day organized by Physical Education instructor Jess Tangen. Eight Luther students also volunteered their time to help with the field day stations.
Walk to School Day is part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school.
