Two Decorah High School sophomores--Micheal Foster and Rebecka Green --recently spent three days in Cedar Rapids to receive training on how to spot instances of misinformation in political campaigns.
The training was aimed at enabling Micheal and Rebecka to spot the errors made by politicians. But instead they have learned how hard it is to talk to political campaigns--both the Obama and Romney campaigns have so far failed to return phone calls and e-mails.
Nevertheless, both Micheal and Rebecka says they are reading and listening to news much more closely now. "There's definitely a lot of misinformation out there," concludes Micheal. Rebecka says she's reading more news now, while Michael says he's noticing how much opinion gets put into supposedly neutral stories.
The two endorse two websites as being helpful in separating fact from fiction--www.politifacs.com and www.realclearpolitics.com.
