Some issues involving requests for satellite voting stations at Luther College have now been resolved.
Three requests were filed earlier this year for satellite voting stations on campus. But Winneshiek County Auditor Ben Steines said operating three satellite absentee voting stations at Luther College--all within a few hundred feet of each other—would be an unnecessary expense to Winneshiek County taxpayers.
Now Luther College officials have weighed in on the requests and have refused the use of the other facilities. They stated one site would be sufficient and less confusing than having multiple locations, so they only approved the use of the Luther Student Union.
So Steines is announcing that there will be a Satellite Absentee Voting station at Dahl Centennial Union at Luther College from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24th. Ballots available at this station will be Decorah Wards 1, 4, and 5; the part of Decorah Township in Supervisor districts 2 and 3; and Canoe Township. This represents the ballots for Precincts 3, 5, and 6.
This will be the only site and only time there will be satellite absentee voting. The Auditor's Office is encouraging voters to take advantage of the in-office voting at the Auditor's Office offered from now through November 5th if they cannot take advantage of the October 24th satellite absentee voting station.
