Thursday is the first day for absentee voting in Iowa. Absentee voting can be done at the Winneshiek County Auditor's office during the office's normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. There will also be two Saturdays--October 27th and November 3rd--when the Auditor's Office will be open for absentee balloting.
Voters are reminded the voting precincts and county Supervisor districts have changed for this year due to the census. If a voter has a question about where they go to vote on Election Day, they should reference their voter ID card that was mailed out earlier this year, or call the county Auditor's office.
Sample ballots, absentee ballot request forms, and a link to look up where you go to vote are available at http://www.winneshiekcounty.org/election-2012-general-header.html.
There will also be a new check-in procedure in use during this election. If a voter has their voter ID card or their driver's license with them and would voluntarily have it scanned, this will save time when looking up their information in the computer. This procedure is available at the Auditor's office for Absentee voting and at the polls on election day.
Questions can be directed to the county Auditor's office at auditor@co.winneshiek.ia.us or (563) 382-5085.
