Iowa High School Sports Network representative Chuck Reed told an audience of Decorah High School students Wednesdat afternoon "You people don't share well." That's because the high school for the fourth time in five years has won the Class 3-A Challenge Cup, an award the measures success of students in academics, fine arts and athletics in comparison to other high schools throughout the state.
Decorah High School not only scored the most points in Class 3A for the 2011-2012 academic year, but it set an all-time point record for any school in the state with 1,260 points--breaking its own previous record.
That's why some of the speeches at Wednesday's awards ceremony centered on making sure students didn't get overconfident. "Winning is a habit," stressed high school principal Kim Sheppard--a sentiment echoed by Assistant Principal Adam Riley.
The school received a trophy and a $1,750 check from Bank Iowa to recognize the achievement.
