Decorah High School wins the Iowa Challenge Cup

For the fourth time in the last five years, Decorah High School has won the Class 3-A Challenge Cup, an award that measures success of students in academics, fine arts and athletics in comparison to other schools throughout the state.

"We are very excited to earn this award again for our community, school district, teachers, coaches and most importantly our students," said Decorah High School Activities Director Adam Riley.  "The fact that athletics, music and speech are included in the scoring process make this award a very true reflection upon the success of all students in our entire activities program and the excellent community support we receive."  

The competition, sponsored by the Iowa High School Sports Network and Bank Iowa, uses a statewide scoring system based on the performances of students in competition, on the stage and in the classroom. Points are assigned for every activity in which a school reaches a state competition, advances in a state competition, receives division I ratings and earns academic recognition from either the IHSAA, IGHSAU, IHSSA, and IHSMA.

Decorah High School not only scored the most points in Class 3A this past school year, but had the most points of any school in the state with 1,260 points.  That total broke the previous record of 1,185 points, which was set by Decorah High School in the 2009-2010 school year.
