23 Decorah High School students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement Exams--nine more than last year and the most in Decorah High School history.

About 18 percent of the more than 1.8 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.

Two students--Carolina Deifelt Streese and Morgan Weis--earned the AP "Scholar with Distinction" recognition. This award honors students who receive an average score of 3.5 or greater on all AP Exams and a passing score of 3 on five or more tests.  Deifelt Streese and Weis are just the second and third students in Decorah High School history to earn this honor.

Three students qualified for the AP "Scholar with Honors" award by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. The students earning this award were Ashley Cliff, Grace Dambeck and Jonathon Winter.

18 students earned the AP "Scholar" award by completing three or more exams with scores of 3 or higher. They were Parker Beard, Mitchell Burgraf, Jacob Drost, Eric Fulsaas, Bjorn Gowdy-Jaenig, Elizabeth Hovden, Noah Klammer, Thomas Knobbe, Tessa Kraus, Tristan Maker, Maynard Newhouse, Michael Peter, Riley Samuelson, Zach Schmelzer, Elizabeth Shroyer, Andrew Storlie, Shelby Varney, and Erin Voss.

Decorah High School offers five AP courses and preparation for several other AP tests, as well as eight concurrent college classes with NICC.

Decorah students earned a passing score on over 130 AP exams in the spring of 2012 .
