20 candidates for local and state office have confirmed they will participate in candidate forums sponsored by the Decorah area chapter of the American Association of University Women.

Winneshiek County sheriff Leon Bohr has accepted an invitation to attend.  Sheriff candidate Chuck Ihde has declined due to a schedule conflict.  Winneshiek Medical Center Board of Trustees candidates Steve Hildebrand, Karl Jacobsen, David Kratz and Jim Tweedy have accepted invitations to attend..

District 55 state representative candidates Michael Klimesh and Roger Thomas have both confirmed they will attend, as have district 28 state senate candidates John Beard and Michael Breitback.

The October 2nd forum will be conducted in two parts--sheriff candidates and hospital board candidates will go first, and, after a short break, state candidates will get their turns.  In both cases candidates will introduce themselves, describe their qualifications and respond to written questions from the audience.

The October 2nd candidate forum will begin at 7:00 p.m. in room 206 of Luther College's Valders Hall of Science.

A second candidate forum is planned for October 11th featuring candidates for Winneshiek County supervisor.  District 1 candidates Bill Ibanez, Dennis Karlsbroten and Bob Watson will attend.  District 2 candidates Floyd Ashbacher, John Franzen and Rachel Vagts have confirmed they will attend.  District 3 candidates Les Askelson and Dean M. Thompson, District 4 candidates Clark Goltz and John Logsdon and District 5 candidate Mark Kuhn have all confirmed they will attend.  District 5 candidate Lonnie Pierce has not yet confirmed.

Details of time and location for the second candidate forum will be released in the near future.
