Construction crews are working to wrap up Phase Two of the Short Street road project in Decorah.
That will clear the way for Phase Three of the project--which city officials say could be "the most challenging" in terms of its impact on traffic and neighboring property owners.
Plans call for opening all of Short Street to the Paine Street intersection, where a gravel surfaced detour will begin on the north side of Short Street. Paine Street will be closed to traffic heading south.
Once the Paine Street intersection is done being paved traffic will be switched over to the detour. The existing remaining paving will be removed and the south two lanes will be graded and paved from Highway 9 to Paine Street in October. The paving will be done in sections to maintain access to Kwik Star and the mini-mall on the south side of Short Street.
