Winneshiek Energy District's Joel Zook

Winneshiek Energy District Home Energy Planner Joel Zook completed his 100th home energy audit on Friday morning--a milestone for him and the Energy District.

Zook says WED has done a total of 158 home and commercial audits since its creation.  That number will increase because WED has reached an agreement with Black Hills Energy to do all the utility's home energy audits in the City of Decorah.  Furthermore, Hawkeye REC has begun offering $250 rebates for home energy audits that its customers have done.

Zook says the energy audits have reached different recommendation for every house, although putting more insulation in a home's attic is a common recommendation.  "These are not cookie cutter audits," says Zook, pointing out the recommendations are "custom fit to each home."

Interestingly, it's not always the older homes that have more energy inefficiencies, nor is it always the newer homes that are the most energy efficient.

To learn more about the home energy audits, you can contact Zook at joel@energy district.org, visit the WED's website at www.energydistrict.org or call Zook at 382-4207, extension 2#.

In the meantime, Zook has a prediction after passing the 100 audit milestone: "The next 100 are going to go a lot quicker."
