Five Green Iowa AmeriCorps teams are wrapping up their training this week at the University of Northern Iowa's Center for Energy & Environmental Education, with one of the teams heading to Decorah over the weekend. "We are excited to have a new team to help us make Winneshiek County more energy efficient," says Joel Zook, Energy Conservationist and Home Energy Planner at the Winneshiek Energy District.
AmeriCorps workers have weatherized 245 homes throughout Winneshiek County in the past, saving residents an average of $146 and directly reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 289 metric tons annually. This week's training will prepare the new team members to provide residential weatherization services, facilitate energy education programs, and lead community outreach projects with their assigned host organizations.
