A candidate forum will be held on Tuesday, October 2nd, sponsored by the Decorah area chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The forum will begin at 7:00 p.m. in room 206 of Valders Hall of Science on the Luther College campus.
The forum will be conducted in two parts. First, candidates for Winneshiek County offices of sheriff and hospital trustee will introduce themselves, describe their qualifications, and respond to written questions from the audience. The following candidates have been invited to participate: Leon Bohr and Chuck Ihde for county sheriff; and Steve Hildebrand, Karl Jacobsen, David Kratz, and Jim Tweedy for hospital trustee.
Part two of the forum will include candidates for state and national offices. Invited to participate are district 55 state representative candidates, Michael Klimesh ( R ) and Roger Thomas (D); district 28 state senate candidates, John Beard (D) and Michael Breitback ( R ); and district 1 U.S. representative candidates Bruce Braley (D) and Ben Lange ( R ). After introductions, these candidates will also respond to audience questions.
All candidates will be given a minute and a half for introduction. All audience questions will be screened by a committee of AAUW members and asked by a moderator. Responses will be limited to one minute.
Candidates may have printed information available outside the forum hall.
There is no cost to attend the forum and the public is welcome. Parking is available in the municipal swimming pool parking lot and the lot behind Preus Library on campus. Some limited spaces are also available near the Sampson Hoffland addition to Valdres.
A second candidate forum is being planned for Thursday, October 11th to include candidates for Winneshiek County supervisor. A separate announcement will be released at a later date.
