The Decorah Community School District has received the annual reports of ACT testing for its students. And the news is good.
Decorah students tested in 2012 had an average composite ACT score of 24, compared with a 22.1 statewide average. Scores in specific areas: English, 24, compared to 21.6 state average; Math, 23.3, compared to 21.7 state average; Reading, 24.5, compared to 22.5 state average; Science, 23.8, compared to 22.2 state average.
The report shows a gradually increasing five year trend for Decorah students, compared with a slightly decreasing statewide average.
Accordingly, the scores show a higher percentage of Decorah students who should be prepared for specific college level coursework. For example, about 90 percent of Decorah students tested should be prepared for college level English Composition, compared with 77 percent state wide.
