Six people were injured in a two-car accident on Locust Road on Saturday afternoon.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department says the accident occurred at the Locust Road intersection with Canoe Ridge Road when 52-year-old Kevin Thornton of Waukon failed to stop for the stop sign at the Locust Road intersection with Canoe Ridge Road. Thornton's vehicle was struck broadside by a car driven by 63-year-old Marcia Berge of Decorah.
The force of the collision caused on of the passengers in Thornton's car--23-year-old Amanda Thornton of Waukon--to be thrown out of the vehicle through a side window. Also injured in the accident were Berge, Kevin Thornton and three other passengers in Thornton's vehicle--47-year-old Lynn Thornton, 16-year-old Cody Thornton and 10-year-old Zach Thornton.
All six were taken to Winneshiek Medical Center by ambulance. Amanda Thornton was then airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, where she is listed in critical condition.
Kevin Thornton has been ticketed for failure to obey a stop sign.
