Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz says rainfall in Decorah totaled just under two inches--1.98 inches less than the monthly average for August.
That made August the fourth consecutive month with below average precipitation in Decorah. Bernatz says for the summer months of June, July and August, Decorah received 5.11 inches of rain, which was just 40 percent of the average precipitation for those three months. That made this June through August the fifth driest since records began being taken in 1893.
For the last 12 months, precipitation in Decorah has been 6.66 inches less than normal.
Bernatz says temperatures in Decorah in August were 0.8 degrees warmer than normal. From 1893 to present, 40 Augusts were warmer and 77 Augusts were cooler. No record temperatures were set in August.
