"A Decorah biker" e-mails Mr.Answer Person: "As I read about the dedication plans for the Trout Run Trail this coming September 22nd and 23rd, I am very surprised over something in the plans.
Why are they not planning tours of the trails for members of the public who maybe cannot use the trail due to age or health problems? Would it be because of the liability and insurance problems to do some thing like this with passengers?
By this I mean perhaps get a small utility tractor with a small wagon or trailer with seats capable of holding 6 to 8 people or maybe a group of golf carts with volunteers to drive. During the construction of this trail over the last several years there have been many negative comments made as to the money that has been put into this and finally with the elaborate bridge that ended the project.
I believe many people would be amazed when given the chance to take a tour of the scenic beauty of this trail we now have in Decorah, especially the work that has gone into it from the trout hatchery and climbing the hills with the switchbacks and finally the descent back down old highway 52 to the bridge.
To me this would be a great way to promote the trail is to actually give the people the chance to see all phases of this trail and what it offers the users."
Mr. Answer Person says: "Giving tours of the trails was one of the first ideas discussed by the organizing committee for the September 22nd and 23rd events. But, as you have guessed, liability and insurance problems have so far kept the idea from becoming a reality.
If these details can be worked out, we'll let you know. But for now there are no plans to offer tours of Trout Run Trail that weekend. Sorry!
