Luther College President Rick Torgerson has given his 14th annual "State of the College" address at Luther College--the last such speech Torgerson will give before retiring.
Speaking to an audience of staff members and professors, Torgerson listed what he saw as the strengths and achievements of Luther during the past years.
He also pointed the way to what he saw as Luther's future, noting "We cannot expense-reduce our way to long term sustainability--Our future depends on having the very best programs we can create.
Said Trogerson, "Families and students today seek answers to two questions: 'What and how will I learn?' and 'Will I get a job that will it pay me enough to service the debt I incur?' If we can't answer those questions families will increasingly seek alternatives."
Torgerson says once the new Aquatic Center is built, major capital projects on campus will be finished and attention can be directed to building the endowment to support people and programs.
