Winneshiek County Historical Society and Decorah Genealogy Association meeting Monday to discuss former Ben Bear clothing store

The Winneshiek County Historical Society and Decorah Genealogy Association will hold a program meeting at 7:00 p.m. MOnday at the Decorah Public Library about former Decorah the entrepreneur Ben Bear.

Ben Bear was closely connected to a number of the most important commercial interests of Decorah and Winneshiek County in the late 19th century and long into the 20th century. A German immigrant, Bear set out from his homeland at age 18 to seek his fortunes in America.

Sharon Rossman will give the program about Ben Bear's life and career, including stories about the people he encountered on his journey and the family he nurtured. Learn of his role in the growth and development of our city and county and the ventures he supported.

The program is free and open to the public.
