Fundraising has begun for lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over air quality near the North Winn School

Posted: Sun, Aug 19, 2012 6:38 PM

The group of neighbors of the North Winneshiek School who are suing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to get the EPA to address the air quality issues that have affected North Winn in recent years says it needs to raise a little more than $5,000 to help pay for its lawsuit.

The lawsuit is asking the EPA to regulate, according to the Clean Air Act, the poison sewer gasses hydrogen-sulfide and ammonia, the explosive and greenhouse gas methane, and particulates, which are constantly produced and blown into the neighborhood by modern confinements and feedlots.

The group says it needs $10,000 for the lawsuit and has raised $4,800.  The group says all contributions are tax deductible.  A ruling in favor of the group bringing the lawsuit would mean the E.P.A. would be forced to pay  lawyer's fees and court costs, so any donations made for the lawsuit would be returned to donors after a favorable ruling.

The group is asking for $100 or $1000 donations. No names of contributors will be made public.  Checks should be made out to Midwest Environmental Law Center, with "Winneshiek Citizens' Law Suit" on the memo line of the check.  The check can be mailed to:
