Architects visit with Decorah Park-Rec Board to discuss possible recreational center

Architects David Harrison and Jerry Purdy from Design Alliance in Waukee visited with members of the Decorah Parks and Recreation Board for an hour and a half Thursday night.

The Park-Rec Board has begun discussing a possible bond referendum for a recreational center and trail head, possibly on the site of the former Wapsie Produce plant.

While the two architects showed board members sketches of several of the projects their firm has worked on in towns like Pella, Perry, Clinton and Story City, they also spent a lot of time discussing bond referendums.

Harrison says his firm would do a lot of the ground work before any bond referendum "to get all the people going in the same direction."  Harrison joked that "the building is the easy part."

He said his firm would explain to the public why a certain site was selected.  He also said his firm has had a 100 percent success rate at referendums in the past seven years because they design "practical buildings that make sense."

The Park-Rec Board took no action on the proposal from Design Alliance.
