An energy conservation project conducted by Winneshiek Medical Center is paying off, according to hospital officials.
The hospital spent $800,000 upgrading its cooling system and making other energy efficiency changes. Now it has seen a 100 kilowatt hour reduction in its electricity usage. Chief Financial Officer Dave Jordahl says the hospital is on track to save $125,000 in energy costs this year. In fact, that amount might change in September, when the hospital will qualify for lower rates.
Jordahl says the project is doing what hospital officials had hoped it would do. "It has definitely paid off," he says.
