Gundersen issues response to the Mayo Clinic Health Systems public forum

Gundersen Lutheran officials have issued a response to July's health care public forum in Decorah hosted by Mayo Clinic Health Systems.

The letter, a copy of which is posted at the bottom of this news story, says "We're disappointed by the outside influences that have led to some of the decisions by the WMC Leadership and Board.  No matter what the Hospital decides in the future, it's time for us to move forward."

The letter also points out that Gundersen physicians have been using Winneshiek Medical Center.  The letter says Gundersen general surgeons have been performing surgeries at WMC for more than 20 years continuously.  Gundersen doctors performed 1,084 surgical procedures at WMC in 2011 alone.  The letter also notes Gundersen doctors delivered 87 babies at WMC last yearâ€"nearly half of the babies born there.

The letter adds, "We're proud to care for our hospitalized patients at WMC.  And, we're proud that we've expanded the specialty services available in Decorah, keeping your care local. We're here for you 24/7, whether you need to be seen in the Clinic or need care at WMC.  We're here for you because Decorah is our home, too. You are our friends, our neighbors and our partners in building a stronger community. Just like you, our goal is to build and maintain a healthy community for the many generations who live, work and enjoy the beauty of the Decorah area."
