Tourism "Safari" is underway in NE Iowa

Posted: Tue, Aug 7, 2012 9:34 PM

"Driftless Safari" has begun--a free, summer-long treasure hunt spread across Winneshiek County.  Participants are outfitted with a guidebook and map featuring 20 unique sites in the county.  Once at a site, participants follow clues in the guidebook to find a short wooden post that has a special tile from which participants can make a crayon rubbing in their guidebook as proof of their visit.  People can take as long as they wish until Labor Day to complete the "Safari."

Prizes for the 2012 Driftless Safari are now available at all Winneshiek County libraries. Safari participants who visit at least 15 sites are eligible to receive a prize by showing their guidebook and rubbings to library staff.

Prizes will be available at the libraries from now until September 19th, while supplies last.  Any remaining prizes after this date will be available at the Driftless Safari closing ceremony, which will be held in conjunction with the Decorah Open Streets event on Sunday, September 23rd.

Maps and guidebooks are still available at select county libraries, or can be downloaded at www.driftless-safari.org.
