There will be a number of changes when the second Decorah Open Streets event is held Sunday, September 23rd.
The Decorah City Council on Monday night approved a new street closing map for the event. The original event had closed Water Street and Main Street from State Street to River Street. The September event will leave Water Street open, using River Street, Claiborne Drive and Goose Island Road. City council member specified that Heivly Street must remain open.
The Decorah Open Streets event will run from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. that day, preceding a 3:30 p.m. ceremony at Decorah High School for the official dedication of the Trout Run Trail.
Open Streets coordinator David Paquette told the city council his group also wants to sponsor a beer garden with live music for the night before the trail dedication. Paquette says organizers are looking for an event to link Saturday morning's Loop de Loop 5k/half marathon to the Sunday afternoon Open Streets and Trout Run Trail dedication events.
