In the future, inspectors may use a check list when conducting rental housing units in Decorah.
The Decorah City Council on Monday night approved a first reading of an ordinance amending the city code for rental housing inspections. City council member Julie Fischer called it "a really important upgrade."
Previously city inspectors looked mainly at smoke alarms and bedroom exits, but the new checklist would spell out several new items, plus other property maintenance requirements already listed in other sections of city code.
