The Sargent Art Company has honored 2012 Decorah High School graduate Carolina Deifelt Streese for winning one of its Youth Art Contests.

Carolina got a chance to visit New York City recently with her father, Germano Streese, and her art instructor, Elizabeth Lorentzen.  The three were invited to New York because Carolina won the top award at the Art Educators of Iowa Youth Art Month Show in Des Moines in March.

An award dinner was held on Friday evening, July 20th, to honor Carolina and the 19 fellow award winners, their teachers, and their parents. Award winning work was displayed at the dinner and each student spoke to the group about their art work.

The visit to New York then included two days of sightseeing, including a tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, lunch at Rockefeller Center, dinner at an Italian restaurant, tickets to the Broadway musical "The Lion King," a walking tour of Times Square, a visit to the Statue of Liberty, and a visit to the World Trade Center Memorial on the site of the Twin Towers.

Carolina's art work, a pen and ink drawing of Hart's Tea and Tarts in downtown Decorah, and images of the other award-winning student art work soon will be displayed on the Sargent Art website, www.sargentart.com along with photos of the 2012 New York trip.
