NICC Calmar students and staff have received Governor Terry Branstad's volunteer award for their contributions in keeping a 1.2-mile stretch of highway clear of litter since 1991.

The Student Life office at the Calmar campus earned the honor for students' participation in the Adopt-A-Highway program through the Iowa Department of Transportation.

The 2012 Governor's Volunteer Award also recognizes an ongoing effort at NICC to teach students the importance of giving back to the community, to donate their time and talents for the greater good and for students to expand their horizons beyond the simple classroom environment.
