School Board makes appointments; conducts routine business

The Decorah Community School Board appointed Cathy Dietzenbach as the Board Treasurer, and Darlene Woodhouse as the Board Secretary at their Monday night meeting. They also reappointed Ahlers and Cooney as the "school attorney" for 2012-2013.

In other business the board approved the 2012-13 Concurrent Enrollment Contract between NICC and the Decorah Community School District. This is an annual approval that allows the district to provide concurrent (dual) enrollment in college credit courses through NICC.

The board also discussed and prioritized a list of Legislative Action Priorities that will be forwarded to the Iowa Association of School Boards. This list included blocking efforts to remove local control of school start dates (Governor Branstad and some others have advocated for state mandated later starting dates); and pushing the Iowa Legislature to comply with state law in regard to timely action on school funding.
