Wellington Place administrator Deb Vondersitt met with Winneshiek County supervisors Monday to explain her institution's request that the North Building at the nursing home be torn down.
Vondersitt told supervisors it would codt Wellington Place $6,835 to replace the outdated sprinkler system in the North Building. She says if the work is not done, state inspectors would shut down the entire nursing home. Vondersitt says inspectors have given Wellington Place until May 2012 to come into compliance.
Vondersitt also said the building is costing Wellington Place $12,435 a year in utility bills.
She said Wellington Place has no plans for the use of the building.
County supervisors held the discussion Monday to gather more information about the building and to give the public a chance to weigh in on the issue. 14 people attended the meeting.
