Watson campaign expanded to six items

District 1 County Supervisor candidate Bob Watson is calling for Winneshiek County to pay the cost of a new heating and air conditioning system for North Winneshiek Schools.

Watson, who is running as an independent against Democrat Bill Ibanez and Republican Dennis Karlsbroten, says the county board has never voted against a permit for a confinement operation, despite neighborhood opposition.  Says Watson, "When the first confinement was proposed next to North Winn, many neighbors voiced their opposition. That opposition had no effect on the Supervisor's position. So, the Supervisors bare some responsibility for North Winn's current situation."

He also notes that supervisors supported proposed ethanol plants in Ossian and Jackson Junction, although plans for both plants fell through.  Says Watson, "If the Supervisors can vote to spend money on industrial ag ventures, then the Supervisors can vote to spend money on systems which will keep kids free from breathing the poison sewer gasses coming from industrial ag CAFO's at least while they are inside their school."
