Decorah man arrested for drunk driving following accident

A Decorah man has been arrested for drunk driving following a traffic accident on Pole Line Road.

Police say 35-year-old David Gerber of Decorah lost control of his car on the curve at Pole Line Road and went into the ditch, traveling nearly 120 feet before the car stopped.  Witnesses approached the car, saw that both airbags had deployed and advised the driver to wait for police.

Police say Gerber instead moved the airbags and left the scene of the accident.  Police caught Gerber on Madison Road after a short chase and arrested him on OWI charges.

Gerber was not injured.  His car suffered $3,000 in damages.
