The Iowa State Bar Association has presented its highest award, the Award of Merit, to Decorah lawyer Marion Beatty.  Beatty is a past president and long-time active volunteer of the organization.

"Marion Beatty embodies the principles upon which the Award of Merit was established," said outgoing ISBA President Bob Waterman in presenting the framed plaque to Beatty.  "He has tirelessly applied the law to assist his clients during the 35 years he has been in practice.  He has far exceeded what is expected in serving his state bar association, including as its president, and national professional organizations.  And he has worked to improve the lives of fellow citizens in his community."

Meanwhile, fellow Decorah lawyer Laurie Parrish has been named president-elect of the ISBA Young Lawyers Division.  The 33-member committee works on issues of importance to younger lawyers in Iowa.
