The Minnesota State Patrol says 55-year-old Martha Meade--a former Luther College Admissions Office employee--was killed Monday in a traffic accident on Highway 44 near Spring Grove.

The State Patrol said 25-year-old Elizabeth Faldet of Decorah was driving a vehicle west on the highway shortly before 6:00 p.m. Monday and had stopped in a lane of traffic when the vehicle was hit from behind by a pickup driven by 79-year-old Alvin Darling of Decorah.

Darling was not injured, but the four people in the Faldet vehicle were and were taken to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.  Martha Meade was later pronounced dead at the hospital.  Another passenger,
Pearl Faldet of Decorah, is listed in critical condition.  Elizabeth Faldet and 28-year-old Karl Erickson of Decorah, both passengers in the car, were treated for minor injuries at Gundersen Lutheran.

The Houston County Sheriff's Department, Spring Grove fire and ambulance and Mabel Fire Department assisted in the accident.
