Summer 2012 enrollment at Northeast Iowa Community College is down.
School officials say the 248 students enrolled for summer classes represents a 12percent decrease in headcount. The number of credit hours being taken this summer (2,015) represents a 16 percent drop from last summer.
NICC vice president for student services Dr. Linda Petersonattributed the decline to a change in federal student aid which no longerallows the use of PELL grant funds for summer courses. She says also fewer four-yearcollege students are taking summer courses at NICC.
The NICC EnrollmentTaskforce has been working on ways to attract adults who may be interested in career change or in beginning or finishing anassociate degree. It is also discussing new ways of serving veterans.
