Decorah City Council not interested in renewing parking lot lease

The City of Decorah probably will not renew a lease for a parking lot located at 406 West Main Street.

Property owner Marc Folkedahl is asking for lease payments of $650 a month for the parking lot.  But City Street Committee chair Gary Rustad says the need for the parking lot has decreased in recent years, with the change in location of the Oneota Co-op and changes at the Armory Building.  "We have adequate parking." he told city council members Monday night.

The current lease runs through July 31st.  City council members decided not to take a vote on the lease Monday night, hoping that perhaps some organization or business might step forward before July 31st with a plan for the property.
