The City of Decorah's water supply meets all state standards, according to a 2012 Water Quality Report.

The report, which is posted online at the city's website, http://www.decorahia.org/PDF/2012%20CONSUMER%20CONFIDENCE%20REPORT.PDF, shows improvement in nitrate levels in the water.  Nitrates often get into the drinking supply through the application of fertilizer, especially on farm fields near rivers.  The highest level of nitrate that is allowed in drinking water is 10 parts per million.  Last year's water sample showed 8.2 parts per million.  This year's report shows 6.4 parts per million.

Other tests for minerals such as lead, chlorine and copper in the drinking water also showed levels well within allowable levels.
