Tourists visiting Decorah will now have an easier time getting information about the area even during weekends and holidays.

A new tourism brochure display has been added to the front of the building that houses the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce, Winneshiek County Convention & Visitors Bureau and Winneshiek County Development, located in downtown Decorah.

The kiosk allows visitors to pick up needed information after hours, over the weekend or during holidays.  Tourists can still get information inside the building during regular hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturdays  The display includes four waterproof, clear boxes that hold the Winneshiek County tourism guide, recreational trail maps, city/county maps and other visitor information.

"Just like that, our office became a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week informational resource for travelers," said Brenda Balk, Director of the Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The display was created by Decorah resident Francis Peterson, with some of the materials coming from Letterwerks Sign City and the rest of the material being supplied by Peterson.  The weather-resistant wood has been painted white, with lettering added to the display to direct tourists to the resource. The tourism brochure display was a gift to the community from Paul Scott in memory of his late wife, Sally.

"We're constantly refilling the boxes," said Emily Kurash, Central Receptionist. "Over Memorial Day weekend more than 70 visitors guides were picked up after hours."
