Protest of Luther spraying draws a crowd of 60

Around 60 protesters walked from Wayside Park near the College Drive Bridge to the Decorah Swimming Pool on Tuesday evening to protest Luther College's spraying of lawn herbicides over the Memorial Day Weekend.

A number of people spoke at the end of the march at the Decorah Swimming Pool.  Decorah area resident Steve Mc Cargar staed, "What happened this past weekend should be of concern to the entire community."  He said the herbicide spraying was wrong because of the high winds at the time of the spraying, the hot temperatures and the lack of warning flags near the swimming pool.

"I think this is a step too far," added Mc Cargar.  "We have to mobilize to send a message to Luther that this is important to our community."  He urged Luther "to honor the health of our children and pregnant women."
