Shannon e-mails Mr. Answer Person: "Does Winneshiek County provide maps of road construction? I was unsuccessful in my internet search. I think it would be nice to have maps to go with the stories about road closures."
Mr. Answer Person says: Winneshiek County provides small maps of each construction project. decorahnews.com will try to do a better job of including those maps when announcing county highway road construction detours.
At this point there is no overall Winneshiek County road construction map. County Engineer Lee Bjerke tells us, "That is something we have discussed doing and would like to do, but like everything, it get prioritized and that has never made it to the top of the list."
The county engineer's office does post written messages about road closures on the web page http://www.winneshiekcounty.org/road-closures.html
Also, the State of Iowa posts road construction information about state and federal roads on its website, www.511ia.org.
Concludes Bjerke, "A map of all closures would have to be done in-house. Again it is something we have discussed but has just not made it to the #1 position of things we need to get done." In view of the funding problems currently being faced by county highway departments throughout Iowa, that situation is understandable.
