Decorah kids Monday afternoon got a chance to learn what it takes to power a light bulb.
Representatives from the Winneshiek Energy District visited the Decorah Public Library's after school program with a bicycle that allows people to see how much electricity it takes to run lights and appliances.
The bicycle was hooked to a read out panel that helps riders monitor their output in terms of volts and watts as they pedal. The panel also showed riders how much effort is needed to run different kinds of light bulbs and appliances.
Tasha Trumble of Decorah was one of the kids giving the bicycle a try. Afterwards, she said using the bike to generate electricity "was hard."
