Volunteers are being sought for a Decorah project that will send clothing to World Wide Village for distribution to Haitian orphanages and medical clinics. World Wide Village is a community health initiative founded by Decorah native Dr. Josh White.
A group of Decorah volunteers will gather from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 13th, at Baker Commons at Luther College to make the clothing. Anyone who can sew, iron, cut, or provide fabric is being invited to come to the event.
Organizers will provide patterns and directions, but they're asking volunteers to bring a sewing machine or serger and sewing tools. Bring a sack lunch to the event, although coffee and tea will be provided.
Donations of fabric (each dress takes 1 yard or less of fabirc), thread, ribbon, elastic, bias tape, and rickrack or other trim are welcome. Pillowcases in good condition can also be used.
If you cannot attend the sewing day, but would like to donate materials, leave them at First Lutheran Church in Decorah.
