St. Benedict School in Decorah has graduated a class of 16 eighth grade students.
The ceremony on Wednesday, May 23rd, included an evening mass at the school led by the eighth graders and presided by Father Phil Gibbs. Following mass, the seventh graders served ice cream and toppings to the graduates and their families.
The evening continued with an award ceremony for participation and honors in music, band, First in Math, Mathcounts, Speech, top Accelerated Reading points earner, Presidential Fitness Awards, Presidential Academic Awards, and student council. Students were recognized for earning the Eagle Eye Award and Golden Platter for their accomplishments during their three-day trip to Eagle Bluff Environmental Center, which included zero food waste and good environmental stewardship practices.
Diplomas were awarded to students and a farewell was offered to the families who will no longer have children at St. Benedict School, including Scott and Kelly Williams, David and Brenda Broghammer, Patrick Etie, Lisa Gerleman, Keith and Linda Hemesath, Al and Mary Hosting, Greg and Cheri Lane, John and Ruth Ann Sacquitne and Jackie Wilkie.
The evening concluded with a slideshow of the eighth graders' years at St. Benedict School.
