The Winneshiek County Auditor's Office is reminding voters of the upcoming primary election on June 5th.
Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on election day. Absentee voting is currently available in the county Auditor's office through Monday, June 4th during normal business hours. The Auditor's office will also be open 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday June 2nd.
The office is also reminding voters that due to the census and redistricting their normal polling places may have changed. If a voter has a question about where their polling site is they can contact the Auditor's office at (563) 382-5085, or refer to their voter card they received in the mail earlier this year.
There will be an alternative voter check-in option at the polls on election day. Voters that are willing to have their Driver's License or State ID scanned will have a faster and easier check-in procedure. Bar code scanners will be available at all polling locations for voters who voluntarily scan their ID. This procedure will expedite the check-in procedure and save the voter from filling out the voter Affidavit of Eligibility. For voters who do not have their ID along, or choose not to use it, the precinct election official will type their name in and find the voter in the database just as has been done in previous elections. This procedure will help promote efficiency and integrity in the election process, but it is still the voter's choice whether to participate.
For sample ballots, absentee ballot requests, and to find out where you go to vote, see the County Auditor's website, http://www.winneshiekcounty.org/election-2012-primary-header.html. Questions can be directed to the county Auditor at (563) 382-5085.
