A Decorah teenager was killed in a traffic accident Monday evening.
16-year-old Melody Simmonds was traveling south on Highway 52 shortly after 10:00 p.m. when she lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle rolled several times, landing on the driver's side and pinning Simmonds underneath. Simmonds was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
A passenger in the vehicle, 16-year-old Brandon Grocholski of Elkader, was extricated from the vehicle by Postville Police. Grocholski was taken to Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon and then airlifted to Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse.
