Luther lawn spraying is prompting a complaint

A worker sprays lawn herbicide Saturday afternoon, when guests up to 24 mph were reported in Decorah

Decorah resident Steve Mc Cargar says he will file a complaint Tuesday about Luther College's spraying of lawn herbicides during windy conditions over the weekend.

It will be the second year in a row the Iowa Department of Agriculture has been contacted about Luther's spraying.

Last year the Iowa Department of Agriculture issued a warning letter to the company in charge of the  lawn chemical application after some trees were damaged by the chemicals

No monetary fine was imposed on the contractor, but Iowa Department of Agriculture investigator Steve Van Helten visited the campus and collected samples, then the agency issued a letter of reprimand against the contractor.

This year there is a new contractor for the lawn herbicide spraying, but the complaint will be the same--that the spraying was done when conditions were too windy.
