ArtHaus summer classes begin this week

Posted: Sun, May 27, 2012 7:23 AM

ArtHaus, downtown Decorah's home for the arts, begins its summer session of classes Tuesday.

Luther College associate professor of English Amy Weldon will teach a 6-week class, "Turning Life into Fiction (or Not)," which begins on Tuesday.  She will also offer a class for more experienced writers needing help to polish works-in-progress, "Advanced Writing Class," beginning Wednesday.

"Pottery Exploration Workshop," offered by ArtHaus in conjunction with The Clay Studio, is taught by Clay Studio owner and teaching artist Rachelle Branum.  Students will work on wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery in the new outdoor studio as well as the indoor space in this 4-week class on Monday evenings, beginning June 11th.

Julie Strom's 3-week Photography Workshop, entitled "Get to Know Your Camera," begins June 12.  Understanding and using the controls on a camera more effectively, as well as elements of good composition, will be explored in the ArtHaus Studio and outdoors in the field, as weather allows.
Sewing guru and Luther College costume designer Lisa Lantz will teach a 3-week workshop called "Sewing 202: Alter Your Own Clothes," on Wednesdays beginning July 11th. Techniques such as taking in side seams or waists, hemming, darts, gussets, etc, will be taught by altering the clothes brought in by students.

ArtHaus also offers a variety of summer art camps for youth ages 4-15. A full calendar of events can be picked up in front of ArtHaus (in the milk box), at the Oneota Community Co-op, Public Library, Park & Rec, and other downtown locations.  It's also available on-line at www.arthausdecorah.org.

Participants are asked to register at least one week in advance of the start date. To register, visit the ArtHaus website, or call or email for more information: 563-382-5440 or arthaus508@gmail.com
