Iowa's corn crop is in good condition overall, but Decorah-based ISU Extension crop specialist Brian Lang says an estimated 20,000 acres of corn in Northeast Iowa were replanted last week.
Lang says the problems were caused by a late April freeze and heavy rains, causing emergence problems. The worst problems occurred in a band through Floyd and Howard counties, catching parts of Mitchell, Chickasaw and Winneshiek.
The latest statewide crop report says corn planting statewide is basically done, including replanted acres. 81 percent of the corn crop has emerged, one week ahead of normal. The corn crop is rated 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 16 percent fair, 60 percent good and 21 percent excellent.
